What Certification Bodies (CABs) Do

Certification Bodies in the UAE also called CABs (Conformity Assessment Bodies) are officially appointed by the MOIAT (Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology). Their role is not to help you prepare your documents, but to evaluate them for compliance.

Key responsibilities of certification bodies in the UAE:

  • Verifying product compliance against UAE.S standards

  • Issuing the ECAS certificate of conformity

  • Ensuring the validity of submitted technical files

  • Acting independently, without offering consulting or document creation

Examples of ISO certification bodies in the UAE include TÜV Middle East, SGS, Intertek, and Bureau Veritas.

What CABs Cannot Do

According to international best practice (e.g., ISO/IEC 17065), CABs must remain impartial. This means:

  • They are not allowed to help you write or revise your technical documentation.

  • They cannot consult you on how to meet ECAS guidelines or CE marking requirements.

  • They must not influence the content of your Declaration of Conformity document.

In fact, mixing consulting and certification violates international standards of independence.
